View Full Version : Problem with C&C Generals Zero Hour DirectX 8.1 error

Hi, I get an error message with trying to run Tiberian Sun and Generals, Generals Zero Hour. The error message says: please make sure you have DirectX 8.1 or higher installed. Also verify that your video card meets the minimum requirements. Minimum requirements on back of box (Command and Conquer The First Decade) are:



OS: Win XP

Cpu: 800 Mhz or faster

RAM: 256 MB or more which is what i used to have.

Disc Drive: 8X or faster DVD-ROM drive.

Hard Drive: 9.8 GB if installing all games. Have plenty of space.

Video: DirectX 8.1 compatible video card.

Sound: DirectX 8.1 compatible sound card.

On the side: Hardware transform and lighting capable video card with 32 MB or more memory, and one of these chipsets is required: NVIDIA GeForce 2 or greater; ATI Radeon 7500 or greater.



Specs:



Dell Dimension 4550 manufactured in 2003.

Running Windows 7 home premium 32 bit sp 1.

Intel Pentium 4 2.53 Ghz.

2 Gb RAM DDR. DIMM

Video Card: Nvidia Geforce4 MX 420 64 MB. Video card works videos are a little choppy.

Sound Card: Diamond Xtreme Sound 5.1 with updated driver sound card works just fine.



All parts in computer are original except for sound card and RAM and OS WIn 7.

You'll have issues trying to get a game designed for XP to run on 7. Win7 does have compatibility mode so you can try setting that on the executable. Right click on the executable and choose properties. Then, on the compatibility tab choose XP.

Command and Conquer has a number of fan forums online where you might be able to find a more specific answer to your exact issue. Since this is a general help forum the odds that someone has run into your issue is small since it's about a specific game.

It didn't work i guess i'm going to have to see if anyone will answer me on C&C thanks anyways

hold the windows key on the keyboard and hit R. Type in dxdiag. What does it show?
