If you have an Android device you must know how annoying and intrusive some app's "AdMob" strategy can get. http://www.techsupportalert.com/freeware-forum/images/smilies/mad.gif The only way to get rid of these ads so far was limited to users with rooted phones . The recently launched AdBlock Plus (v1.0 - for Android 2.1 and up) has changed that by giving the chance to get rid of ads to non-rooted devices. Just note that its functionality varies with the Android version you are using and the device's status (rooted=more options; non-rooted=less options).

You can get the app from the PlayStore (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.adblockplus.android) and learn how to configure it by using the official guide (https://adblockplus.org/en/android-config#proxy).

Give it a try.

Thanks for this IO.Hazard!

The cons as I see them:

- Yet another app that starts automatically http://www.techsupportalert.com/freeware-forum/images/smilies/mad.gif
- You cannot get rid of the notification icon.I may be tempted to give it a try if I get fed-up of the ads.

BTW, is it just another app that'll work regardless of which browser you use, or do you have to install it like browser extensions for Windows?

i use adaway (needs root), it doesn't need to startup on boot or run in background, run it once to mod the host files the close it and it sticks, at least for me

It is an app that works on a system level, therefore it should block all incoming ads no matter where they come from or what kind of app you are using. Good news is you can adjust it to fit your preferences since it includes a list of filters just like the windows version. http://www.techsupportalert.com/freeware-forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

Just in case, you can disable the "launch at boot" option if you don't want it to start automatically... And yes, you cannot disable the notification icon yet.
