View Full Version : What "irrelevant" background thing has made you think "that is next-gen"

There often has not been a great difference in the PS4/PS3 or Xone/X360 visuals of many all format games... but every now and again something appears that just makes you think "that is stunning"

For me it was playing PS4 Driveclub and seeing "irrelevant" irrigation sprays in the fields in action ( compare the detail to say the "wow" a plane taking off in the background of a N64 era game... )

What visual has caught your eye?

I often find myself admiring the visuals in Driveclub.

I think the wind effects in The Witcher 3 are stunning, the way it seems like every blade of grass and tree is swaying. I feel like that's next gen because I'm almost surprised how the graphics aren't causing the game to grind to a halt.

I know what you mean. Hard to think of one off the top of my head. Driveclub has several, the petals getting kicked up by the cars in India for example.
Shadows and grass density sometimes are very impressive. For me, just the atmosphere created.
One I liked for some reason was in Witcher 3, talking to the Baron and the wind blowing the tree about outside the window.

Apart from when you die, and the loading times seem to suggest that the game has in fact done just that http://i2.cdnds.net/13/49/green-happy.gif

For me it was the real-time changes to the pitch in FIFA 15 as the match progresses. Pretty cool.

Yep, loading times can be one of the things to go in the "we're getting this in a next gen game?!" thread. Bloodborne was similarly terrible in that regard but did improve somewhat after a patch.
