View Full Version : MS14-045 - Update (V3) - KB2982791

Severity Rating: Important

Revision Note: V3.0 (August 27, 2014): Bulletin rereleased to announce the replacement of the 2982791 update with the 2993651 update for all supported releases of Microsoft Windows. See the Update FAQ for details.

Summary: This security update resolves three privately reported vulnerabilities in Microsoft Windows. The most severe of these vulnerabilities could allow elevation of privilege if an attacker logs on to the system and runs a specially crafted application. An attacker must have valid logon credentials and be able to log on locally to exploit these vulnerabilities.

I personally have chosen to hold off on installing KB2993651 until "the smoke" clears: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2993651/en-us

I am holding off too.

August has not been a good month for the Microsoft Team.

i got warned about this new update on the 27th and installed it. there was a "link" in windows update to a microsoft page which mentioned something about potential for causing problems with fonts. i haven't had any harm done by it, though a recent article on "howtogeek" discusses something i have seen which MIGHT have a connection to this update( a slight change in the appearance of text in chrome, the windows update sounds like a probable cause to me). the fact that this update came out on a day other than "patch tuesday"(second tuesday of the month) must suggest microsoft is rather scared of whatever this patch is designed to protect against.
