Hello ~
I'm not too computer savvy, but my PC has been running slowly for a few months now. Then in the last few days MSE shows a status of "Potentially Unprotected". So I run a scan because it says it's not been run in a while. After it completes a scan, http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/icon_hello.gif for a minute or two the MSE icon is green then goes back to orange like it's never been scanned. Please advise, and thank you for your time... CJ

Hi Onesouthernirish http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/smile.png

Let's get an idea of what's running on your system right now, and if MSE is indeed running or not.

Download MiniToolBox (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/minitoolbox/dl/65/) and move the executable file to your Desktop;
Execute MiniToolBox and check the following options:

List Installed Programs;
List Last 10 Event Viewer Errors;
List Devices - Only Problems;
List Users, Partitions and Memory size;

Worth a read, https://askleo.com/why-is-microsoft-security-essentials-constantly-saying-potentially-unprotected/ (https://askleo.com/why-is-microsoft-security-essentials-constantly-saying-potentially-unprotected/) .

Moved to AV/AM Software.

Uninstall the following programs please:

Adobe Flash Player 14 Plugin;
Flash Player Pro v5.4;
Java 8 Update 31;
PC Fix Speed 1.2.0.52;
Safari;

If you encounter any issues when uninstalling a program, let me know.

You'll need to uninstall and reinstall Spybot Search & Destroy if you want to keep on using it, since the current installation is damaged/corrupted. Also, I suggest you to try the suggestions in quietman's post after to fix your Microsoft Security Essentials problem. If it persists, we'll try something else.

Hello ~

I tried to uninstall 1). Adobe Flash but now all I see is Adobe Air Player17-Active X. 2). I have tried many times to uninstall PC Fix Speed, but it never goes away. 3). I can't uninstall Spybot either, Now there's another page that popped up & said I'm not using genuine Windows and they'll be happy to charge me $109.00... MY MSE is still orange but when I try to run a scan it doesn't complete itself. Again, Thank you for your time... CJ
