View Full Version : Weird website keeps popping up

I love to watch YouTube videos in my spare time. I noticed that this "Get paid to date" website will pop up only while watching YouTube. The page pops up without me clicking an ad or even moving my mouse. The page will get rid of the YouTube page and replace it with the "Get paid to date" page. I have no viruses, since I run a Norton and Malwarebytes scans every night. This only happens on my computer, and is this a virus, or some ad that just takes over your screen?

Do you use an ad blocker?

Social networking sites (MySpace, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, etc) can be a significant security risk which could make your computer susceptible to malware infection. Researchers at the Global Security Advisor Research Blog have reported finding pornographic virus variants on Facebook. The Koobface Worm has been found to attack both Facebook and MySpace users. VirusBulletin has reported MySpace attacked by worm, adware and phishing. Some MySpace user pages have been found carrying the dangerous Virut file infection. Even using Instant Messaging clients can present a security risk.

Users visiting social networking sites are exposed to innocuous-looking banner ads containing code which can trigger pop-up ads and malicious Flash ads that install viruses, Trojans and spyware. Malware has been discovered on YouTube and it continues to have a problem with malware ads. VirusBulletin recently reported Cryptolocker Being Spread On YouTube Ads.

Ads are a target for hackers because they offer a stealthy way to distribute malware to a wide range of Internet users. Hackers are also known to exploit Flash vulnerabilities which can lead to malware infection. When visiting a website that hosts an HTML page which requires a Flash script, users may encounter a malicious Flash redirector or malicious script specifically written to exploit a vulnerability in the Flash Interpreter which causes it to execute automatically in order to infect a computer.

I had this problem starting yesterday too. I've had the same provocative ad redirect me twice now on different YouTube videos. Hopefully they get it resolved soon.
