View Full Version : Host Process for Windows has Stopped Working

05-27-2015,
I have seen a number of posts diagnosing this issue, however, they seem specific for each user so I thought I should ask for help specifically for me.

I get this message periodically (once every day or two), but there does not seems to be any problems associated with it. I do have a couple issues that may or may not be part of it. One is that I periodically lose network connection from my Ethernet connection. The computer icons in the task bar seem to be still showing communication but the Networking and Sharing page shows limited connection to the router and no connection to the internet. My router is still working however since I can use WiFi on another device. I end up having to restart the computer to get the connection back. Another issue I have is this message in the Event Viewer: "The master browser has received a server announcement from the computer MYNETN600 that believes that it is the master browser for the domain on transport NetBT_Tcpip_{A07981E3-3A87-43F5-970A-BE5DBA13. The master browser is stopping or an election is being forced." The latter issue is a real pain, the previous one - not so much.

I am running Vista Home Premium 32 bit with Service Pack 2 installed.

Thanks for your help

Doug

Anybody out there that can help?

Your Internet problem is most likely related to the host process stopping. The master browser event is normal.
If you check Event Viewer (http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/open-event-viewer), do you see any events (in system or application) that say something like "the xyz service has terminated unexpectedly"?

Thanks for your response.

Host Process just quit and these are the details in event viewer for applications (however note this is just labeled as an "information" level, not "error"):

Does that help?

06-01-2015,
Yes, that helps.

What model is your (Dell?) computer?
Is your computer configured to sleep or hibernate?
Do you have a network printer installed on this computer?

It is configured to sleep

Do you have a network printer installed on this computer?

My printer is a Cannon Pixma that can be connected by WiFi, but I have it plugged into the USB port on the Dell.

Thanks for your reply.
