View Full Version : Computer randomly restarting-kernel power 41- BugcheckCode 257

05-27-2015,
My hubby is always having issues with his computers, my brother recently rebuilt him this computer and now he is having issues again(starting to think he is the problem!)
So he has been complaining that the computer has been randomly shutting down/ restarting, from that he says it always happens when he is playing minecraft or civilalizations 5(mayby skyrim as well) basically I believe he is always playing a game when it crashes, I'll confirm that tomorrow.

I finally got around to checking the event log, which was showing a kernel power 41, but it wasn't generating a bugcheck code, I did some research and started running some tests to try to figure out what was causing the problem. I downloaded AMD Over Drive to try to see if it was an over heating issue and while one of the tests was running (go figure it happened while I was in the other room) it crashed and I got a blue screen

Open the Control Panel and click on System and Security.

Click on Windows Update, then click on View Update History.

In this window you will see all of the updates listed under Name, you will see Status to the right of this.

Post any updates that are recognized as important which have failed.

06-03-2015,
It looks like all the ones that failed were successfully installed the next day(which may have been after I uploaded the log. My hubby has a habbit of leaving his computer on 24/7 so I ususally shut it down when I happen to come on it and see there are updated to install.

ETA:there are also a lot of updates from a few months ago that failed but I think they were also installed at a later date, but there are too many of them to confirm that for sure. I can make a screen shot of those as well if you think it is necessary.
