Looking at your list Jojo I realise I forgot to install a PDF reader and dictionary after I installed a custom OS iso. I have a couple of other browsers but Dolphin is the fastest on this machine. Also got some news readers, BBC, RT, ARS, The Register and Alternative News. Somewhere in the grey area between these news sources lies the truth so all are useful. Well....maybe not all, but Alternative News is just hilarious, with links that often as not lead to the "AboveTopSecret" web forum, home of the hardcore tinfoil hat brigadehttp://www.techsupportalert.com/freeware-forum/images/smilies/smile.gif

I was almost finished and accidentally closed this tab... Anyways my KitKat Nexus 5 has ~20 third-party apps, while my rooted Galaxy Note has ~55.

Essential apps I think (just about everyone) should download:
MX Video Player
ColorNote
ES File Explorer
Alarm Clock Plus or AlarmDroid
Any free Flashlight (there are so many on the play store)
Transparent Screen
Barcode Scanner
The range of Google Apps - mainly Google (Now), Google Maps (although they're usually included on most Android devices)
ZArchiver
Speedtest
Adobe Reader
Adobe Flash
Other apps I would recommend:
AutomateIt
BT Remote PC
Firefox
Rocket Player
Google Sky Map
K-9 Mail
MusiXmatch
Pocket
PVSTAR+
Shazam or SoundHound
Google Translate
Zedge

1Tap Cleaner
Superuser
Titanium Backup
Applock

Bluebox Security (for occasional secondary scans)

Terminal Emulator
Avast
Music Player (formerly Folder Music Player)
MX Player (must have for video playing. the best)

The four contact backup apps are for backing up contacts in text or csv format, as I do not like the original vcf format.
