    Why You Should Buy Dishonored

Harvey Smith, lead designer on Dishonored, regularly calls out the gaming industry for its repetition. Kotaku interviewed him yesterday and he had this to say:
"If you're gonna spend X dollars on something and X years of your life, you don't have to do exactly what everybody else has done or what you've seen. You don't have to draw your inspirations from what else is on the shelf."

You can read the full interview here, and it's well worth the read, about why Dishonored doesn't have boss fights:
So this holiday we have a fantastic lineup of games to choose between. And there's no way in hell I can afford them all. I feel like a kid at a candy store, drooling over all the options, knowing I can't possibly taste them all. So what do I buy? Well, Assassin's Creed 3 is definitely on my list. And to be honest, I want it more than Dishonored. I'm sure a lot of people want Halo 4 more than Dishonored. Others want Pokemon Black and White 2 more than Dishonored. But here's why you should give some serious consideration towards finding some way to purchase a copy of Dishonored too:

Dishonored is trying SO MANY new things. Halo is just more Halo. Pokemon is very much just more Pokemon. But Dishonored? It's AAA developers taking a stand and saying "No more clones. We're doing something different this time."And now it falls on us as gamers to support this movement. If we buy Dishonored, we're rewarding and encouraging creativity and innovation, and driving the medium of games forward.

If we leave Dishonored on the shelf in favour of a sequel that makes minor tweaks and additions like Halo 4, or is flat out the same game as before with a different coat of paint like Pokemon... then fuck it. We don't deserve developers like Harvey Smith. We're tools who beg for something new and then ignore it in favour of the same old shit.
